3.2 Architectural School of AUTH
In 1973 G.P. Lavas was appointed Professor at the Department of Architecture of the Aristotle University of Thessaloniki in Morphology and Styles of Architecture, promoting new educational fields of Architectural History such as History of Modern and Contemporary Architecture and the Protection of Monuments.

Since 1992, as the Director at the Research Office of History of Architecture at the Department of Architecture, Aristotle University of Thessaloniki, he established an archive of the Modern monuments of Macedonia and Thrace and promoted the interest in neoclassical architecture and urban planning with the organization of the first conference in Greece entitled “Neoclassical City and Architecture” (Thessaloniki, 2- 4 Dec. 1983).

Despite his academic activities, he was involved in: a. the protection of Ano Polis of Thessaloniki and the Old Town of Xanthi as President of the respective committees b. the restoration of Byzantine Monuments and the protection of Mount Athos, c. the set up of a “Corpus of monuments of Thessaloniki” which is used by the Ministry of Culture on its “Polemon” Project of the National Archive of Monuments.
