3.3 Faculty of Communication UoA
In 1992 G.P.Lavas was invited to the National and Kapodistrian University of Athens as Professor of History of Art and Cultural Heritage at the Faculty of Communication and Media Studies (1992-2003) and Lecturer in “History of Art” at the Faculty of the Philosophy and History of Science (1995-2000) . As the Director of the Laboratory for the Management and Promotion of the Cultural Environment and of the University Research Institute of Applied Communication, at the Faculty of Communication and Media Studies, National and Kapodistrian University of Athens (1994-2005) he promoted: a. new scientific interests on the protection and interpretation of cultural heritage with courses such as “Cultural Heritage. Basic Concepts, Ideology, Methodology and International Conventions”, “Distinguished Monuments and Sites of Greece”, “Cultural Management and Heritage Management”, b. the recording and documentation of the cultural assets of the Attica region, c. various research programs with the Greek Parliament, the National and Kapodistrian University of Athens and the European Union (Byzantium and the Early Islam, Euromed Heritage III)

Parallel to his academic activities he was also Member of the Committee of Conservation of the Acropolis Monuments (CCMA), Expert of the Patriarchate of Jerusalem and member of the International Committee of Experts for the works at the Holy Church of Resurrection in Jerusalem and Surrogate Member of the Central Archaeological Council / Greek Ministry of Culture.
