Cover
A compilation of texts by G. Lavas and M. Marmaras examining urban space from prehistoric settlements and traditional architecture up to the appearance of apartment buildings in the mid-war years and the modern city. The city is examined as a built structure as well as an immaterial structure shaped by politics, science and the arts.
A concise series of texts on the cultural history from the Paleolithic times to today. Art is viewed as a means of communication; the characteristics of an art piece are featured; style and applied arts are viewed as a methodological tool for the historian; "beauty" in the arts is carefully examined; finally, a diagram of cultural history includes the following units: i) the art of man-hunter ii) the art of man-settler iii) the art of man-engineer.
A revised edition of “Cultural Heritage: Distinguished Monuments in Greece” with the addition of a chapter on “Protection and Management of Cultural Heritage”. Ther main task is to establish contemporary strategies for the protection and management of natural assets and landmarks through current bibliography and operational experience in the field. A unit on the evolution of tourism from educational excursion and mass expedition to a modern perception on traveling at hand.
The texts facilitated university lectures on the topic “Introduction to Cultural Studies and Human Communication”; a new discipline, namely, Heritage Management, is established.
With this book, Professor Lavas attempts to outline a panorama of architectural forms on an international, as well as on a national scale; the intention of the author was to deliver fundamental knowledge on the social structures and the features of architectural works throughout history to his readership. A broad, cultural interpretation of the history of man made space.
